Judo
Judo emphasizes the proper usage of leverage and technique to throw even a larger, more powerful opponent to the ground. Known for its dynamic throws, sweeps and takedowns, Judo is the sport form of Jiu-jitsu, Japan’s more dangerous empty hand martial art. In Judo however, all the dangerous techniques of traditional Japanese jiu-jitsu have been removed and rules have been added so that it is a safe, yet competitive sport.
Being the predecessor of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Judo also employs arm locks, chokes and pinning techniques on the ground, making it a well rounded grappling art.
Judo practitioners are required to wear the Gi, a traditional Japanese Kimono, though in modern application, many of Judo’s techniques have been modified and adapted for use without the Gi, making it an excellent compliment to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, Submission Grappling, and MMA practitioners.
